Drug Courts are extraordinarily effective alternatives to the traditional adjudication of drug-related offenses in criminal courts. Specialty Court funds from the Nevada Supreme Court pay for this program. There is an average of 65 participants in the program. The Western Regional Adult Drug Court is held every other Monday in District Court. The mission of the program is to provide addicted offenders a foundation to lead a drug and crime-free lifestyle through a multi-disciplinary team approach focusing on intensive treatment monitoring and supervision. Grants through the Nevada Supreme Court and Carson City Justice Court Restricted funds pay for the program. Participants attend weekly court hearings. Armstrong, members from the District Attorney, Public Defender, Department of Alternative Sentencing, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Community Counseling Center meet weekly to discuss each participant’s compliance and progress in the program. The department consists of 9 1/2 employees and provides pretrial and probationary supervision, pretrial arrestee screening services, community service coordination, and oversees courthouse security. ![]() The District Court Judges also are responsible for District Court cases in Storey County. The First Judicial District Court Judges supervise the Juvenile Court and Juvenile Probation Department. These offices provide all clerical support for the court’s operations and serve the public. There are Court Clerk’s Offices on each respective floor. The First Judicial District Court is on the third floor and the Justice and Municipal Courts are on the second floor of the Carson City Courthouse. There are two District Court Judges, two Justices of the Peace/Municipal Court Judges and 28 full time employees. In 2006, the First Judicial District Court and the Justice and Municipal courts agreed to consolidate administrative functions and hire one Court Administrator to maximize staff resources and to improve efficiencies.
